Why teach?
There’s no career quite like teaching. From sharing your passion for your subject with young people, to having a job which offers excellent progression opportunities, there are many reasons why people choose to go into teaching.
No two days as a teacher are ever the same. Every lesson you teach and conversation you have with your students or colleagues will have a huge impact and empower you to feel you are truly making a difference to the lives of young people. By helping to shape future generations, you are shaping the world, and making a visible difference to your local community.
Teaching will allow you to develop creatively, academically and professionally, giving you a wide-ranging skill set. You will work with students who challenge you, inspire you and make you smile. You can be in charge in your classroom and let your personality and creative flair shine through!
You may already have valuable skills to bring to teaching from another career. Whether you have worked in a school as a teaching assistant, or worked with young people as a sports coach or tutor, or been doing a different career path entirely - you probably have many transferable skills that would be highly beneficial to young people. This would help you transition smoothly into teaching and, with many opportunities to progress, could set you on a path towards promotion and professional self-development quickly.
In addition to the joy and reward of teaching, there are practical benefits too, including a competitive pay scale and pensions scheme, and more holiday than most alternative careers.
Many teachers were inspired by a teacher when they were at school, and this led them to want to be an inspiration for others in turn. If this sounds like you, and you’re keen to take the first step towards a new teaching career, check out our ‘Application’ page.
